about

The Ship That Never Returned is a tragic ballad written by Henry Clay Work in 1865. Through the folk process, the tune was later used for the train wreck ballad “The Wreck of the Old ‘97” and later parodied in Bess Hawes’ “MTA” (made famous by The Kingston Trio), Bob Gibson’s “Super Skier,” and the Geezinslaw Brothers’ “Bicycle Wreck.”
